This week (July 8 – 15) is NAIDOC Week. The theme this year is “Because of Her We Can’ and it acknowledges the important role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played, and continue to play, in the community.
They are fierce advocators for justice, equal rights, rights to country, for law and justice, access to education, employment and the importance of celebrating Indigenous culture, language, music and art.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women play active and significant roles, protesting and protecting their culture at local, state and federal levels.
They are mothers, elders, grandmothers, aunties, sisters and daughters, and they are making a difference in so many ways.
