Everet’s Story – Exercise physiology

When Everet had a few near falls while out walking, one resulting in a fall that left him with rib fractures, he became less confident in going out and about.

That saw the 77-year-old spending more time at home, but with the support of an Exercise Physiologist, he’s now getting out and feeling more positive.

Everet was already a Footprints Home Care Package client, receiving shopping and nursing support. After the fall, Everet’s nurse suggested he participate in exercise physiology to try and improve his strength and mobility to prevent further falls from happening.

Everet was introduced to Footprints’ Exercise Physiologist, Angus who has been working with Everet for about four months now. Angus visits him every fortnight and together they work through a tailored program. The program is designed so that Everet has exercises to do every day, it helps track his improvement and encourages him to exercise between Angus’ visits. The program includes exercise bike work and band exercises which aim to improve Everet’s strength and mobility.

“Everet has been really, really solid with sticking to the program and I’ve recently upgraded him from a lighter band to a heavier one,” Angus said.

Since receiving Exercise Physiologist support from Angus, Everet reports that he feels a lot better within himself.

“Since I’ve been exercising, I have a new lease on life. Now, I go for more walks, and I feel positive,” he said.

Everet’s advice for others in his situation, “Have a go and get into exercise. It gives you confidence and positivity.”
