Robert has led a unique life — he left school at the age of 12 to work on fishing trawlers and became an avid greyhound trainer at the age of 60. Photos from his greyhound days are proudly hung on his living room walls.
Before connecting with Footprints, Robert had been doing it tough. For the past 20 years, he has been living alone in the family home, though as time went on, he began to experience increasing challenges.
About four years ago, Robert was admitted to hospital where a Nurse Navigator referred him to the Footprints Aged Care team.
Robert’s Care Manager successfully advocated for him to receive a Home Care Package, and utilising his package, he was able to arrange for the house to be cleaned and to receive regular visits from nursing staff for medication and health checks.
Beata was recently assigned as Robert’s Care Manager, and she has arranged for his house and yard to be cleaned every fortnight. She has also advocated for Robert to receive a higher level of support.
Since receiving Footprints’ support, Robert has been feeling less socially isolated, as he has been receiving regular visits from Beata and other support workers.
“The help from Footprints has made me feel better. If it wasn’t for the Nurse Navigator and Footprints, I wouldn’t be here. I was just going downhill,” said Robert. “It’s a 150 per cent improvement on before.”
