Celebrating Volunteer Week

This week a huge THANK YOU goes to our 63 active Footprints’ volunteers as we celebrate National Volunteer Week (NVW).

Most of our amazing volunteers visit older people, providing friendship and helping to prevent loneliness.

Some of our volunteers have lived experience and use this to offer understanding to older women at risk of or experiencing homelessness, or provide comfort and encouragement to people experiencing mental health concerns.

Volunteers are community change-makers; here is one of their stories:

Volunteer Week

“Volunteering with Rosie over the past year has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. What began as a simple commitment to give back has turned into a genuine friendship filled with laughter, love, and connection.

Rosie and I have shared so many lovely moments – craft mornings making cards, mini manicure sessions, outings to Bunnings and Spotlight, and coffees at Redcliffe, watching the water and chatting about everything under the sun. She’s even met my Grandsons and joined us at the movies during the school holidays, which meant the world to all of us.

Through this time, I’ve also become close with her daughter Kim and was honoured to be invited to Rosie’s 80th birthday celebrations – a milestone that felt truly special to share.

This program goes far beyond visits; it builds community, connection, and joy. I’d encourage anyone who’s even slightly curious to give it a go, you might just make a friend for life.” – Peta (volunteer)
